Destination Delaware Delaware is known as the "First State" because on
December 7, 1787, Delaware became the first of the original 13 states to ratify
the constitution of the United States. Delaware is also known as a state
with no sales tax.
Mayflower and Atlas Van Line moving migration surveys reported
in 2006 that Delaware was one of the top five states with the most inbound
relocations. This is attributed to the growing population of retirees in
the beach communities, along with the growing number commuters making a longer
drive into Pennsylvania and New Jersey.
